INDIA—India's largest mobile TV platform has entered into an exclusive arrangement with breakout Bollywood star Sunny Leone for the company's new mobile app. When downloaded, the app will provide the company's 22 million users with access to a plethora of Sunny Leone content, including videos of the former adult star and updates about her life and career.
According to ZDNet, however, "Those hoping for easy access to hardcore Sunny may be disappointed—the application on Google Play says that it 'will field her travel blogs, her movie experiences, her announcements and personalized videos announcing winners of various contests that will be planned during 2014.'" Not to worry, adds the site, "Those eager for more racy stuff can easily access it off her personal website." And, in addition to Zenga TV, all the digital content will also be available on Sunny Leone’s YouTube channel.
Zenga TV’s Shabir Momiin said of the partnership, “Sunny is a global star and is followed by millions globally. Our engagement with her will be many fold and we will be making efforts in bringing her closer to her fans through her different activities. The audience will also see her in many new avatars.”
The former adult performer commented, "I am excited to work with Zenga Media exclusively after realizing that they are pioneers in the space and will help me connect with my fans more closely through the digital medium."
Though the choice may be seen by some as somewhat risky on Zenga's part, ZDNet noted that it is "also clever when you consider Leone's pedigree as one of Maxim's top 12 porn stars in 2010 and Penthouse Pet of the year in 2003. Originally selected as a Penthouse playmate by none other than Bub Guccione (who gave her the name 'Leone'), she went on make it big as a contract star for leading adult entertainment company Vivid.
"Zenga," wrote Rajiv Rao for the site, "could have easily picked any of the hot Bollywood stars of today—from bad boy Salman Khan, the Badshah of the box office for the last decade here, to leading actresses Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra, all with massive fan followings, especially in the digital medium. Instead they chose Leone. What probably attracted Zenga to Leone is her revelation that 80 per cent of the traffic on her website, and 60 per cent of revenues come from India.
