ALBANY, N.Y. - The winners of the first-ever Sex-Positive Journalism Awards, known as the Sexies, have been announced.
Among the list of winners is AVN Online contributor Tom Johansmeyer, who was named a runner-up in the "sex-themed publications" category for his November 2007 feature "War Games."
Selected from more than 100 entries submitted by writers and readers, the winning entries cover subjects ranging from sex in nursing homes, prostitution and sex in Iran to Kink.com and panic over Internet sex. The winning articles were published in a dozen states and one Canadian province, and represent a range of genres, from news to advice columns.
The awards will be presented in October at a New York cocktail party that will be open to the public.
The Sexies are the brainchild of journalist Miriam Axel-Lute and were created in collaboration with writers, readers and activists from the Center for Sex & Culture and the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom.
Submissions for the 2009 Sexies will be accepted through March 2009 at Sexies.org/Submit.php.
The corporate sponsors of the Sexies are founding sponsor Babeland, Alt Life Films, The Playboy Foundation and XBIZ.
