AUSTRALIA — Leave it to an Australian female politician to play the porn card on Facebook, in full and public view of her colleagues, all but ensuring a negative backlash. Sexist snark it seems knows no geographical (or gender) limitations, but neither apparently does the inclination of the clueless pol to misuse social networks to their eventual embarrassment. There ought to be a law...
This time it was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council representing the Australian Labor Party, Amanda Fazio (pictured, left), who last Thursday during a NSW parliamentary ball posted a comment to Facebook stating that MP Geoff Provest had brought a date "that looks like a retired B-grade porn star."
The date turned out to be Provest's partner of four years, Gold Coast businesswoman Elizabeth Hamilton (pictured, right), who, in our humble opinion looks nothing like a retired B-grade porn star, whatever that might be.
The fallout was pretty immediate, and Fazio, who is perhaps the last person who should be making catty remarks about someone's looks, has removed the comment and issued a groveling apology.
"I am deeply sorry for the comments I made on Facebook and the hurt and offence they have caused," she said. "The comments were wrong and completely unacceptable. I apologize unreservedly to Ms. Hamilton and Mr. Provest."
Hamilton declined to respond when told of the apology other than to say she remained hurt and offended and was concerned for her reputation. Perhaps to help in that regard, she also released a photo of the dress she wore to the ball, seen above, which was no doubt fine for the occasion but certainly nothing any self-respecting B-grade porn star would be caught dead in.
Of course, we would also like to hear more from Fazio about the sartorial distinctions between a retired B-grade porn star and a retired A-grade porn star. It sounds like a fascinating subject.
