Webmaster in Thailand Arrested for Distributing Porn

Webmaster Arunsap Boonyarit was arrested by police in Thailand for posting pornographic photos for trade and distribution on his website NisitGirl.com.

Boonyarit, 25, was arrested on the 13th floor of the CAT Telecom building on Charoen Krung Road in the Bang Rak District on Tuesday. Police seized seven computers from his office and 14 computers from a 14th-floor office for inspection.

Police from the Children, Juveniles and Women Division and officials from the Information and Communications Technology Ministry reportedly found Boonyarit using his computer to download and share pornographic content using BitTorrent, a file-sharing program.

Boonyarit was charged with allowing sexually obscene content into a computer system under his supervision for public access with the purpose of trading or sharing pornographic photos.

The violation of the Computer Crime Act is punishable by up to five years in jail and a 100,000 baht ($3,015) fine.

Boonyarit said his website was created to allow users to exchange views. Police said at least 10 porn websites had used Boonyarit's site to post sexually explicit photos, messages or links to other obscene sites.

Boonyarit and other webmasters reportedly were aware of the problem and tried to remove the illicit content but were unable to do so because their sites received more than 10,000 porn messages daily.

Boonyarit agreed to improve his site's content-screening system and inform police of the offensive sites, police said.

According to Winai Eu-sabai, head of the Information Technology Supervising Office, there are more than 300 obscene and porn-related websites based in Thailand.
