Virtual VIE in View

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.—enVie Interactive, a developer, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment, has announced plans to build a massively multiplayer online social game (MMOSG) that caters to women.

According to a press release issued Wednesday, “VIE offers an ongoing series of episodic content, unique shopping experiences, high fashion, art design, and intimate encounters, all in a tropical island setting. It provides a mature audience the opportunity to escape and indulge in mysterious adventures at their leisure.”

The game’s website, www.viethegame.com, currently exists, but is thus far only signing up prospective participants for the beta version. The company says it has plans to release trailers and B-roll later this spring. The game will be released in the second half of 2010.

"VIE is an online playground for adults that offers stunning graphics, unique customization and the ultimate entertainment experience to a market that has been virtually ignored by the gaming industry," said Philo Northrup, president and co-founder of enVie Interactive. "The concept for the game is the brainchild of Viktor Kalvachev, and together we have created a virtual world where adults will want to come, play and indulge in whatever they desire."

The company also says that VIE supports a theory called “Productive Play,” which encourages gamers to “explore and expand their creative and artistic sides as well as their social interaction in a virtual world.”

Northrup says that women are the prime target market for this more engaging form of interactive experience.

"We believe that Productive Play is essential to everyone, but especially to this underserved market," adds Northrup. "Sometimes we work so hard that we forget to play and have fun. We want to give our players an outlet where they can have fun and indulge their creative whimsical side and grow from it."
