CYBERSPACE—3D virtual world platform Utherverse has opened a casino in Red Light Center for users in the United States. The Tiberius Casino launched in early August, but the company has started to promote it only recently.
A recent article in Hypergrid Business, a magazine that focuses on “enterprise users of virtual words,” profiled the new casino in a larger article about gaming and sex in virtual words. Red Light Center was, of course, designed to be a hub of 3D sexual activity, and as such has found a loyal if fluctuating following, but it also has embraced other “vices,” including gambling.
Tiberius is not the only casino built in Utherverse worlds; the Golden Palace is open for business, but only caters to people in countries that do not outlaw online gambling. Shuster said the 3D environment is very amenable to this sort of activity and expects to see many more such establishments open their doors in the near future.
“These casinos operate according to the laws of their jurisdictions,” he told Hypergrid Busines. “We anticipate a rush of development of next-generation casino games that lend themselves to the multi-player environment.”
It may not be too long before laws change in the U.S. to also allow virtual betting for real, but in the meantime Tiberius will have to whet the appetites of American Red Light Center denizens.
“The Tiberius Casino is a play-for-fun casino, so users play with chips,” Shuster said. “Chips cannot be cashed out for anything, though they can be used to obtain virtual world properties and to send virtual gifts.”
