TorrentFreak Revisits the Art of Unblocking Blocked Sites

CYBERSPACE—Admitting to nothing, advising nothing, suggesting nothing, TorrentFreak nonetheless had a great time Sunday revisiting ways to unblock blocked websites. Writer Andy noted the reason for the revisit was the global increase in blocking (hello, David Cameron) while also admitting that his barely-concealed glee was the result of a very human inclination, noting, "Have you ever noticed that when someone tells you what to do—or what not to do—you have a somewhat natural tendency to go against their instructions?" Come to think of it, yes, we have.

For Andy, the restriction imposed by someone else prohibiting a visit to any legal website he desires is too much to bear. "Once the 'This Site Has Been Blocked' message appears there’s nothing more immediately satisfying than unblocking it, a feeling that parallels the challenging of 'don’t touch, wet paint' when it turns out to be dry after all," he writes. "The good news is that satisfaction is just a few clicks away for anyone who wants it and it doesn’t have to cost a penny either."

He then lists five more or less easy ways to either circumvent or otherwise entirely avoid blocked sites, including by way of private browsers, virtual private networks or various proxies.

Realizing that the suggestions will not be appreciated by a slew of vested interests, Andy concludes his piece with the oh-so-serious admonition, "You are hereby ordered NOT to try any of these solutions—EVER—and if you have any of your own solutions you will REFRAIN from posting them in the comments section below."

Ditto.
