CHATSWORTH, Calif. – Amid a recent flurry of social networking sites on the internet is one with a very adult-oriented slant. TheXXXSpace.com is a new adult online community where members can do anything from meeting other individuals or couples to posting their own racy photos and videos, all while joining and creating “groups” around their interests.
“We wanted to give adults the freedom to be adults,” said George Stafford, founder of TheXXXSpace.com. “If people put any sort of sexy or sexually suggestive images up on their profile on a site like Myspace, they’re automatically booted. And I think that’s really unrealistic and unfair.”
It was one such website expulsion that caused Stafford to conceptualize TheXXXSpace, back in November of 2006. “I had a friend who got booted for having a picture with an object that he made look sexually explicit. And we started to think, what if we could create a place for adults…where people could freely post their own personal porn.”
Stafford said the launch of his site, which he coordinated with the annual Erotica LA expo in Los Angeles, saw some immediate attention. “We had a lot of people sign up just in the weekend of the show. And our booth was right next to the F.A.M.E. Awards booth, so some the porn stars started taking an interest, and setting up their own profiles.
The site looks to give everyone a chance to mingle with their favorite adult stars — among other people — in a way that’s fun and a little more sexual than the other networking sites.
“We see that people like Tera Patrick have something like 40,000 friends on Myspace, but she really can’t do anything with that, because as soon as she posts something that’s seen as sexually explicit, she’ll get kicked off.
“The site is one hundred percent free,” explained Stafford. “And we don’t spam or run ads. We do have very strict rules about some things, such as if you’re a registered sex offender, don’t even think about signing up…so people don’t have to worry about stuff like that. And they don’t have to worry about the person they’re communicating with being a thirteen year old girl, either. For the most part, we let the users govern themselves. If people have problems, they just send a complaint and we fix it.”
Stafford said TheXXXSpace crew is currently working on vamping up the site; creating “tag” features on the pictures and videos and letting people stream cam shows directly on the site.
“There are a huge percentage of couples out there that have pictures and videos of themselves that they want to share, but just don’t know how to get those onto the internet…because everything is moving in that direction, towards technology. We’re trying to simplify the whole process for them.”
Stafford said the format of the site will not be focused, like Myspace, on the options of different backgrounds and music for each profile. “When people are searching profiles, they don’t want to see what kind of background you’ve thrown up there or what kind of crazy music you’ve put on your profile. [With this site] they want to see what kind of sexual interests you have, and if they connect with those interests.
“There are plenty of sites out there that let people be voyeurs, but not so many that let them be exhibitionists…or both at the same time. We’re giving users the chance to do everything, and be as public or as private as they want to be. We want them to connect and explore.”
Stafford added that he’s not very worried about being targeted by the competition. “The bigger guys have been trying to crush us, but that’s fine…that’s what happens when you’re a new business.”
