MARINA DEL REY, Calif.—Takedown Piracy (TDP) has launched a patent-pending, custom tool called the Aikido Program, which it says is capable of removing up to 100,000 copyright infringements in only 24 hours. The Aikido Program is exclusive to TDP and uses a PHP script to exploit a large piracy aggregation site, transforming it into a valuable asset in anti-piracy. This type of outside-the-box thinking, says the company, is what has fueled its success in eliminating 2.3 million copyright infringements as of the end of March.
“I named this amazing tool the Aikido Program after the martial art using the power of one’s opponent against them,” said owner Nate Glass. “After all, this is a fight the adult industry is engaged in, and we need to create alternative methods of battle in order to survive.”
The Aikido Program targets a cyberlocker aggregator. Cyberlockers are online storage sites that offer financial incentives for pirates to become copyright infringers. Because there is a financial motivation attached, this type of pirate does not want to hide, but wants his or her uploads to be as visible as possible by spreadiing uploads over hundreds of websites at once. This gives rise to sites functioning as aggregators of piracy sites.
While these sites might seem to be a huge problem for copyright holders, in actuality they perform a valuable service by containing huge numbers of infringements in one place. With this knowledge, Takedown Piracy enlisted a software programmer to build a custom PHP script that allows the extraction of large numbers of results from the most trafficked cyberlocker aggregators, while maintaining anonymity in the process.
“Companies want to see every piracy site destroyed, but realistically, piracy is never going to go completely away,” added Glass. “While it may seem counterintuitive, sometimes the pirates themselves can be a great asset; the Aikido Program turns their own power against them.”
The result of the Aikido Program is a proportionally huge number of infringements removed. For one of Takedown Piracy’s larger adult studio clients, more than 100,000 infringements were terminated in merely 24 hours. Medium-sized studios using TDP experienced between 25,000 and 30,000 infringements eliminated in only a few hours.
“It was important to me the Aikido Program not be a one-time shot,” said Glass. “I had the programmer build out the script in a way allowing for repeat actions, which aren’t redundant. This turns top piracy sites into valuable assets for my clients.”
Takedown Piracy actively tracks at least nine different ways content may be pirated, providing widespread coverage. Takedown Piracy offers protection in the following areas: Cyberlocker sites like Rapidshare, torrent sites, tube sites, auctioned or unauthorized DVD resellers, search engines, image hosts, blogs, forums and social media.
