WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas attorney general's office announced on Tuesday that Mexican authorities will extradite a man suspected in the slaying of Internet model Zoey Zane.
Israel Mireles will be returned to the United States to face charges related to the death of Zane, whose real name was Emily Sander.
Sander, who was an 18-year-old student at Butler Community College, was last seen alive leaving a bar in El Dorado, Kan., with Mireles on Nov. 23, 2007.
The bar is about a mile and a half from the El Dorado Motel, where Mireles had been staying since beginning work as a waiter at a nearby Italian restaurant several months earlier.
When Mireles' boss came looking for him after he failed to show up to work the following day, the motel room was found in disarray and spattered with blood. Sander's body was found on Nov. 29 about 50 miles east of El Dorado, along with a bedspread that had been missing from the motel room.
Authorities tracked Mireles down on Dec. 19 at a relative's home in Melchor Muzquiz, Mexico. He has been held pending extradition.
