LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Internext Las Vegas 2009, the biggest online adult industry conference, has announced an additional seminar to its Monday, January 12 schedule - The Future of the Business - featuring a panel of the industry's trendsetters.
The seminar, held from 1:30-2:30 p.m., features Wicked Pictures founder Steve Orenstein; Red Light District President David Joseph; Tony Morgan, CEO of Atlanta-based web hosting giant NationalNet, Inc.; Naked Sword CEO and co-founder Tim Valenti; and Steve Jones, founder and CEO of Lightspeed Media Corp. and will be moderated by AVN Online Publisher MJ McMahon.
This all-star line-up will examine how to thrive during the current economic downturn, future trends, new directions for the industry and how to profit from them.
"For the third consecutive year, we're bringing together some of the top minds in the business for a not-to-be-missed seminar on the future of the adult industry," said McMahon. "We will address not only the current state of the business, but its future as well. You won't see a seminar of this magnitude at any other event this year."
Following the Future seminar, leading adult entertainment attorney Greg Piccionelli of Piccionelli & Sarno will present a special workshop from 2:30-3:30 p.m., What Every Entrepreneur Should Know About Copyrights, Trademarks and Other Intellectual Property.
While federal prosecution of adult businesses may be on the wane in the next few years, legal wrangling that involves intellectual property rights is sure to continue, Piccionelli said. The attorney will look at how to protect ownership and avoid disputes, among other topics.
"What we're going to be talking about are those fundamentals, not only about copyrights and trademarks, but also regarding negotiations, deal-making and contracts, which is the bread-and-butter of effective right exploitation," Piccionelli told AVN Online.
Piccionelli said the development and ultimately, the release of new technology will make that knowledge vital. "We got somewhat sidetracked, time-wise, under the Bush administration worrying about our clients being prosecuted and protecting them while also trying to help them fight off piracy and exploit technology."
"This workshop is so important because we can now focus more on business, rights exploitation, technology exploitation and deal making," he said. "I'd much rather be doing that than defending clients in obscenity prosecutions."
