Porn Site ‘Parked’ After Public Outcry

LITCHFIELD, Ariz. - A pornography website based in Florida has "parked" itself following a community's outcry against the site, which has a domain name that is similar to that of the Litchfield Elementary School District.

Officials who run the school district's website, www.lesd.k12.az.us, reportedly were informed last week that people intending to visit the site had accidentally reached a similarly named porn site, lesd.com. In response to media coverage and pressure from parents, lesd.com now directs its traffic to Google instead of the porn site.

Robert Cain, owner of the porn site, registered the domain name through Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Go Daddy in March 2002 and has rights to the name through 2009. According to Amanda Hughens, Litchfield's educational technology director, officials have offered to buy the domain name from Cain, who said he is open to the idea.

The acronym "LESD" is used by 25 to 30 school districts across the country.
