Playboy Launches Site for College Students

CHICAGO - Playboy Enterprises Inc. has launched Playboy U, a free social-networking website for college students.

The site, which opened Wednesday, is only open to college students who are at least 18 years old and have valid ".edu" e-mail addresses. Members can submit content about subjects such as their social lives, relationships, pop culture and events, showcasing their writing and photography. The site features no nude content.

"Playboy U's mix of journalism, entertainment and cross-campus dialogue is distinct within social networking," said Scott Stephen, the Playboy Entertainment Group's executive vice president of operations. "We like to think of Playboy U as a ‘campus social advisor' helping students make the most of their college experience. It's a completely different experience from what other social networks in the market have to offer."

Playboy Radio will launch "The Playboy U Radio Show," a weekly companion program, at 9 p.m. PST Wednesday, Sept. 5. The show will air on Sirius Satellite Radio, and will profile members and content from the Playboy U site and feature advice, campus news and calls from students discussing college life.
