Panel to Discuss Community-Site Marketing

ATLANTA - Mike South, Jim "GonZo" McAnally and Scott McGowan will be among the panelists discussing marketing strategies for community-based websites Saturday, Sept. 1, as part of Dragon Con.

The panel discussion "15 Minutes of Fame (or more) With Web 2.0" will cater to musicians, writers, models, photographers and e-commerce entrepreneurs, and cover topics such as ethics, effective content creation and networking techniques. The discussion will be held in the Cherokee Room of the Atlanta Hilton and Towers

The panel also will include Matthew Wayne Selznick of the search-engine site Maholo and science-fiction author Scott Sigler. McGowan will moderate.

Sigler said the topic is particularly relevant in this time of change in the media.

"The immediacy of the Internet gives artists a new way to connect," he said. "If you can put it online, you instantly have a potential distribution of a billion people. The gatekeepers are gone: Now, it's all up to the audience to decide what is good and what blows."

Dragon Con is held annually over Labor Day weekend. This year's event will take place from Aug. 31 though Sept. 3 at the Atlanta Hyatt Regency, Atlanta Marriott Marquis, and Atlanta Hilton and Towers. Visit DragonCon.org for more information.
