Palahniuk Creates Fake Porn Trailer to Promote 'Snuff'

NEW YORK - Chuck Palahniuk has turned his twisted attention to the world of porn in his latest novel, Snuff.

Palahniuk is the author of the book Fight Club, which inspired the cult movie of the same name. Known for dark humor and a minimalist writing style, Palahniuk has researched the world of adult entertainment in an effort to "bring the huge yet under-acknowledged presence of pornography in contemporary life into the realm of literary fiction."

But rather than just rely on press releases and talk-show appearances to promote the novel, Palahniuk has used viral marketing tactics to generate buzz.

Snuff is a full-frontal XXX novel about porn priestess Cassie Wright and her efforts to cap her legendary career by breaking the world record for serial fornication with several hundred partners. Translation: She plans to record a 600-person gangbang on film.

The novel is told from the perspectives of Mr. 72, Mr. 137 and Mr. 600, who are waiting their turn in the crowded green room.

But bringing the character of Cassie to life in the pages of Snuff wasn't enough for Palahniuk. He has created a MySpace page for Cassie Wright, posted interviews with her on YouTube and even created a trailer for one of the biggest movies of her career, The Wizard of Ass.

Snuff will be released May 20.
