LONDON—The list of 1,900-plus applications submitted for new gTLD was unveiled by ICANN in London today, and for the adult industry there are few surprises. As reported, current .xxx operator ICM Registry is looking to add .sex, .porn and .adult to its TLD portfolio, and it is getting a bit of competition with only one of them.
Two applications were submitted for .sex, one by ICM and the other by a British Virgin Islands-registered entity called Internet Marketing Solutions Ltd., whose primary contact is listed by ICANN as Jeff Gilroy. A company website states it is "a newly created company focused on bringing you solutions via New TLD's. We have applied for our own TLD's and will look at all opportunities for partnership in other new generic TLD's."
The complete list of applied-for strings can be found here. Below are a few that are either directly related to the adult entertainment industry, or tangentially so, in order of the number of applications submitted for each. Obviously not for adult content, but as a counter to it, KID got one submission, and .KIDS got two.
