NEW YORK - Evotum, a new technology-based company that delivers high-quality live streaming video, is on the rise and counts Wicked, K-Beech, VCX, Pulpo and SexZ among its clients.
CEO Iain Molland and his team founded evotum in January 2007 in New York and plan to open a Los Angeles office in April. Among evotum's plans is a video-on-demand platform designed around its player technology.
Senior Account Director Mara Epstein explained that for the past year, evotum has been closely monitoring the evolution of the adult market. Based on their studies, they established the goal of placing control back into content owners' hands. Evotum provides content owners full control, trackability and security. The company allows producers to keep 100 percent of their revenue.
"The [VOD] platform makes it a lot easier for the content provider, who does not need to go out and find a developer," Epstein told AVN Online on Wednesday. "We have developed the site. We have built in all the functionality, so the tools are provided to grow the business, therefore making it more affordable because we have completed the development side and we will make it more attractive. What we want to do is stream a lot of video."
Part of the process involves encoding, and evotum provides encoders or does the encoding itself.
"The viewer's experience is very rich due to its high quality," Epstein said. "Without giving our secrets away, I shall explain our magic sauce. What we are doing is leveraging more of the infrastructure of the PC or the Mac. We are using the graphics and the sound card, and rather than just rely upon the process to drive a player, we are using other components within the computer.
"When you watch clips using our technology, you can still work in the background. It doesn't mean that the CPU is tied up. It is at 10 percent instead of 90 [percent], so you can still do email, [instant messaging] and such. Everything else functions."
Other players on the Internet require dedicated server infrastructure, Epstein said.
Epstein said they have gathered statistics for the past year that show that viewers watch clips longer on evotum's player than on other players.
"Not only do we offer our service on a PC and a Mac, we do not require the user to install a client before they watch it," she added. "The user goes to evotum or any of our clients' sites, and we deliver the player into the browser for the user. The user does not have to worry about having the latest player. We do that for them."
Once a clip is viewed on evotum's player, there is no content evidence left on the computer, Epstein assured, adding that the player's high quality looks great on computer screens of any size.
"Basically, we have extended the ability to watch content in a more flexible way, whether it be in the home or office," she said.
evotum also aims to please content providers.
"We want our providers to be able to tell their viewers that they can watch content when they want," Epstein said. "We stream through firewalls, so if the user is viewing content at work, they are able to get to it.
"Our VOD platform is its ready to go with the evotum technology. It is set up and designed to manage per second, per minute and per title billing. You can also set up and manage multiple affiliate sites. So content owners can go through the process of encoding their library and set up the terms and conditions with the affiliates. It puts you in control of the shop, but through multiple affiliate sites."
