Museum of Sex Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

NEW YORK - The Museum of Sex will celebrate its fifth anniversary by unveiling additions to its permanent gallery at a party Wednesday, Oct. 3.

"At the heart of every museum is its permanent collection," Collections Manager Elizabeth Murray said. "In preserving the often forgotten and discarded items related to sex that make up our collection, the Museum of Sex is preserving an untold history. We are thrilled that our collection continues to grow in size and scope, making our fifth-anniversary celebration that much more exciting."

Among the additions are the "Sex Life of Robots" installation, which joined the museum's permanent gallery this week. The display was designed by Michael Sullivan, an animator, prop fabricator and lighting designer whose robotic characters were featured in his pornographic stop-animation film Sex Life of Robots. A documentary about his creative process and custom-crafted robot figurines will be featured through spring 2008.

The gallery additions also include transgender contributions from Veronica Vera and Michael Salem.

"I provided the museum with some very exciting articles for the cross-dressing community that will be unveiled on that night," Salem said. "These six items include one of my big sellers, the newest type of vagina that men wear so they can look natural. I also provided them with my Treasure Chest item that is a beautiful pair of foam boobs. I also donated my video How to Impersonate a Woman, in which I explain to men how to dress like women."

The Museum of Sex strives to create exhibitions that promote open discourse about sex and sexuality. The museum has featured 12 exhibitions, five virtual installations and more than 15,000 objects in its permanent collection.

The museum is located at 233 Fifth Ave.
