Marty Klein, Ph.D., author of America’s War on Sex: The Attack on Law, Lust and Liberty, will be speaking in the closing session at Internext Expo, a three-day business-to-business conference for webmasters and adult digital professionals in the online adult space. Klein is scheduled to speak Wednesday, Jan. 17, from noon until 1 p.m.
Klein is a certified sex therapist and a public policy analyst. He publishes the award-winning blog “Sexual Intelligence,” which critiques culture, media, and politics from a sexological viewpoint. In addition, he has been a licensed marriage and family counselor and sex therapist for 26 years.
Klein has contributed to many national publications including Playboy, New Woman, and San Francisco Medicine. He has written five books, made numerous national TV appearances, and has been honored by both the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. Those who have attended any of his almost 1,000 training seminars or keynote speeches agree on two things: He is thought-provoking and entertaining.
At Internext Expo, which will run January 15-17, Klein will discuss excerpts from America’s War on Sex. He will describe how the government’s censorship of adult materials is part of a larger pattern of attempting to legislate moral values, and how the religious right is using the issue of regulating sexual expression to radically undermine secular democracy.
“If you’re uncomfortable about blacks, you’re a racist; uncomfortable about Jews, you’re anti-Semitic. But today, if you’re uncomfortable about sex, you’re a civic leader,” Klein wrote in the book.
“When the subject is pornography, see if people can talk without mentioning porn addiction, child porn, brutal porn, or murder,” he continued. “If they can’t, they’re not discussing pornography or sex; they’re discussing violence, power, sadism, and fear.”
According to AVN Senior Editor Mark Kernes, “Marty Klein is possibly the most intelligent, well-spoken person of science in the world today who is dealing with the issue of society’s reactions to sex and sexual material. His insights go to the heart of the conflict between sexual desire and sexual fear, and he isn’t afraid to tell people what they need to hear on all subjects sexual.”
AVN Online Editor at Large Kathee Brewer added, “Marty is a deep thinker and an excellent speaker. What’s especially nice about that is he makes his audience—whether it’s one person or several hundred—think, too. There’s a caveat here, though: Once Marty gets you started thinking, it’s difficult to stop. It’s also hard to suppress the outrage against closed-mindedness and sheep-like mentality all this thinking engenders.”
Internext Expo includes a keynote address by Playboy Entertainment Inc. Executive Vice President Joe Lakey, scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. on Jan. 15. The conference also features a comprehensive three-day educational program entitled Business Building Blocks, which includes seminars, intensive workshops, and classroom sessions, each two hours long and presented by notable experts from within and outside the adult entertainment industry.
Online registration for the $300 all-access Internext pass continues until Jan. 5; onsite registration will begin Sunday, Jan. 14. The all-access pass includes a complimentary brunch and special happy hours daily, as well as all scheduled events at the show.
The trade show will be at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino; Rose Travel & Tours is the official travel agency. Premier sponsors for Internext Las Vegas 2007 are PussyCash and Epoch.
AVN Media Network, the industry leader for adult entertainment news, hosts Internext twice annually: in Las Vegas in January and in Florida during the summer.
