SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Jenna Jameson, an adult-entertainment icon, entrepreneur, and best-selling author, now can add “comic creator” to her list of credits. Shadow Hunter, created by and starring Jameson, was announced Wednesday at San Diego Comic-Con. The title is set to debut in December as part of Virgin Comics’ Celebrity Voices line, which also boasts deals with Nicolas Cage, John Woo and Guy Ritchie.Jameson said she intends to have a “hands-on role” in the comic’s stories.“I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Virgin to bring this story to life, first as comics and eventually in film and other formats,” she said. “Working with comics is creatively liberating — everything is possible. My character is sultry, sexy and kicks ass!”Greg Horn, a top comics and video-game illustrator, created the first issue’s cover art. The complete 144-page Shadow Hunter book will be available in June 2008. Additional information, previews and pre-orders of the comic art and books will be available at the new website JennaComix.“Jenna brings a defiance and edge to everything she does,” said Virgin Comics Chief Creative Officer Gotham Chopra. “She's a provocateur, and there's no doubt that our creative team at Virgin is going to have a blast collaborating with her. I can assure you every artist we have in our studio is vying to get assigned to this project."
Jameson said her character starts out as a regular girl who has a near-death experience and awakens from a coma with the superpower of seduction, which she uses to purge the world of demons. While the story is provocative and sexy, it is intended for a mainstream audience and will contain no nudity.“Jenna Jameson is a cultural force,” said Virgin Comics Chief Executive Officer Sharad Devarajan. “She is an entrepreneur who is taking the taboo to the mainstream and has built an industry around her brand.”San Diego Comic-Con, the industry’s annual mega-festival, is expected to draw record attendance of about 100,000 fans for Jameson’s appearance at the San Diego Convention Center. Jameson will speak about Shadow Hunter and sign autographs at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Images from the series will be available at the Virgin Comics booth.
