Google Redefines Clickable Areas of AdSense Ads

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Google has redefined the clickable areas of ads placed through AdSense, disabling clicking on backgrounds and texts, and only allowing clicks through titles and URLs.

The change to the text-ad formats apparently was made to help reduce accidental clicks and increase value for advertisers. Google Blogoscoped has a mock-up showing the difference between the clickable regions.

Google and Yahoo, accused last year of click fraud and, agreed to an independent audit. Google paid $90 million in a settlement.

AdSense matches ads to webmasters' content; webmasters earn money when visitors click on the ads.
