Google AdSense to Readmit Adult Domains

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Although it was announced last month that Google was considering yanking adult domains from its AdSense program, the company apparently has had second thoughts. After receiving further feedback from partners and advertisers, Google announced on Friday that it no longer would be dismissing adult domains from the AdSense for Domains program.

Google representatives received a tremendous amount of feedback from partners and advertisers and felt it was an unnecessary move to drop adult domains. "Google is constantly working to improve the experiences of advertisers, users, and AdSense partners and felt this decision was best for the company and [its] advertisers," a company statement read.

Adult domains may continue to remain in the AdSense portfolio and add any additional adult domains that are acquired, the company stated.

"We are committed to maintaining a positive experience for end users and advertisers, in addition to partners," the company statement read. "We have determined that continuing to allow adult domains in the program will be beneficial for advertisers and users, and our domain partners. In the coming months, we will continue to improve our policy on the technical implementation of adult domains, but we will continue to allow adult domains in the program for the foreseeable future.

"We sincerely appreciate your understanding, patience, and cooperation during our policy changes," the statement continued.

Adult domains, according to the company, are domains whose name, content, or advertising includes adult content—i.e., any content that refers to or suggests "nudity, partial nudity, sexual imagery/acts, lewd/graphic, or profane language."
