Evangenitals to Perform Live at Cybernet Expo

Cybernet Expo is pleased to announce that the Evangenitals have agreed to perform live at this year’s show. The band will perform exclusively for Cybernet Expo attendees on Saturday, June 9, at the Hilton Westshore in Tampa Bay. Drinks will be provided to attendees during the concert, courtesy of sponsors AEBN and Stockroom.

With a sound the band describes as "hillbilly love punk alternative country psychedelic healthy hippie dirty rock revolution"—or, as one fan describes, "like the Dixie Chicks being beaten with their own guitars at the playful hands of the Violent Femmes," the Evangenitals have a loyal following in the Southern California music scene. They already have released the collection We Are the Evangenitals, and a second LP is scheduled for release in summer 2007.

"The Evangenitals—aka The Love Punks—were once a fictitious band, a fib on a phony website born to amuse its founders and maybe a few friends," according to the band’s website. "On a whim, Juli Crockett, Lisa Dee, and Brett Lyda—who all worked at the same sex-toy company in L.A.—brought the ghost to life and debuted a handful of ‘hillbilly truck-stop lullabies’ for Arlo’s open-mic night at the legendary Mr T’s Bowl in Highland Park."

Crockett, the lead vocalist and principle songwriter for the band, also is the marketing director for Stockroom, which sells sex toys and bondage gear through its website and catalog. Cybernet Expo will mark the first time the band has played for an adult industry audience.

"The Evangenitals have played at wildly diverse venues—at weddings, funerals, churches, outdoor family festivals, political fundraisers, you name it—and every event and venue is different," said Crockett. "This will be our first adult industry bash, and we’re not quite sure what to expect."

Stockroom, along with AEBN, will be sponsoring the Saturday evening performance, and Stockroom also will participate in Cybernet Expo’s popular "Show ’n’ Sell" marketing event.

"We love AEBN," said Crockett. "This will be the second time they have sponsored an event with the Evangenitals, and we are thrilled that they are sponsoring the Evangenitals once more."

Crockett also is a former boxer and is rumored to be the inspiration for Hilary Swank’s character in the Oscar-winning film Million Dollar Baby. Her boxing career ended early due to injury.

The Evangenitals also features Lisa Dee, Brett Lyda, Geoff Brandin, and George Bernardo. So what about their sound?

"Many people have reported that no matter how much someone tries to explain the ‘Evangenital’ experience to them, they are always totally surprised by the way it actually sounds," explained Crockett. "Very difficult to categorize, we comfortably straddle the genres of folk, Americana, Southern rock, alt-Country, indie pop, and psychedelic funk."

Admittance to the Evangenitals show is free but requires a Cybernet Expo attendee badge. Advance registration for Cybernet Expo, along with its reduced registration rates, will end on May 26. Additionally, hotel rooms for Cybernet Expo almost are sold out, but rooms are still available at the Hilton Westshore for $139 per night. Hotel rooms must be booked through the CybernetExpo.com website; anyone attempting to register directly with the Hilton Westshore will be told that the rooms are all sold out.

Cybernet Expo, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, is dedicated exclusively to the adult Internet business. The show offers seminars for online adult business owners, parties and networking events, and an opportunity to make new industry contacts.
