BRISBANE, Australia - Writer J.D. Sampson was announced Thursday as the winner of the Erotic Fiction Competition held by women's erotica website For The Girls.
Sampson's winning story, "Kindling for the Flame," is about a young couple's remembrance of their first sexual encounter many years earlier. Judges said the story "embraced the [competition's] theme of discovery in a beautiful and positive way" and "allows the reader to feel every sensation and every emotion." Sampson won $200 and a one-month membership at For The Girls.
Runner-up Elspeth Potter won $100 with her story "Blindspot," a tale about a blind woman searching for her lover at an orgy. Kat Cox's "Duet," a look at a mutual-masturbation session, won the writer $50. Potter and Cox also received one-month For The Girls memberships.
Ten honorable-mention recipients were named.
Webmaster Karen Jones said more than 60 entries were submitted over the past two months, and it was difficult to choose a winner from the impressive field.
"We had so many top-quality entries that it really was difficult deciding on a final short list," she said. "There were so many different ideas and scenarios. The old cliché of roses and open fires really doesn't apply to women's erotica anymore - if it ever did. And it's wonderful to see so many authors endeavoring to offer an authentic female perspective on sex."
