AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands — Adult content websites in Holland do not have to prove featured models are over the country's age of consent.
This determination came Monday from Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin speaking before the Dutch parliament.
Ballin said it would be "very far-reaching" to require website runners to maintain a copy of the ID of every person who appears on their respective sites, reports Dutch News.
Socialist and Labor party MPs in Holland are seeking further action in verifying model's ages as part of a crackdown on child pornography.
Ballin told MPs the justice ministry already has the tools to close down websites using underage models, reports Radio Netherlands.
Unlike 2257 regulations in the U.S., some other nations do not call for verification of model's ages on adult sites.
Also, ages of consent are generally lower in much of Europe compared with the United States and vary greatly from country to country. The age of consent in the Netherlands is 16, as specified by the Dutch Criminal Code. In Spain it's 13, 14 in Italy, Hungary and other nations, while it's 15 in France, 16 in Switzerland and 17 in Ireland.
