PHILADELPHIA—Video-on-demand provider Hot Movies has turned its focus overseas, toward a cache of rare classic material featuring stars introduced to the world by Alpha-France.
Alpha-France was one of the first companies to release full-length explicit features on 35-mm film during the 1970s and 1980s, including Pussy Talk.
"Alpha-France is the company that established a tradition of classy, sexy European adult entertainment," said James Cybert, director of business development for Hot Movies.
The deal also includes several titles from Blue One, a more recent enterprise of Alpha-France.
The partnership has netted Hot Movies several titles featuring early looks at big stars such as Katsumi, Clara Morgane and Brigitte LaHaie.
Of the stars introduced by Blue One, AVN Award-winner Katsumi (aka Katsuni) has the largest following in the United States. In the coming months, Hot Movies will premiere Katsumi's first movies to the U.S. audience.
"After her well-deserved success, it's fun to watch her when she was a rookie," Cybert said.
Morgane became a sensation in the French pop-music scene with the release of her debut CD in 2007. Despite being less known in the U.S., Morgane features are the most popular Blue One titles on Hot Movies.
"Clara only appeared in a handful of adult films before retiring from porn permanently in 2004," said an Alpha-France spokesperson. "Truly, the films have gained a status as cult classics, well beyond categorization as purely adult cinema."
The Alpha-France titles Hitchhiker Girls in Heat and French Sex Lessons feature LaHaie, a golden-age starlet known as the personification of French beauty. LaHaie retired from performing in 1980 and has gone on to host an X-rated television show in France and the RTL radio show "Lahaie, l'Amour et Vous," which covers all things sexual.
