Upon entering rehab last week for sex addiction, it was rumored David Duchovny was involved in extramarital affairs with his tennis instructor.
However, Fox News reported a close friend has come out in support of the actor proclaiming that the former "X Files" star never had an affair with said instructor - or anyone else - but rather his addiction surrounds Internet porn.
The friend, trying to dismiss rumors of the actor's infidelity, added that Duchovny spent numerous hours in front of the computer in X-rated chat rooms. He likened Duchovny's addiction to an alcohol or gambling dependency.
Duchovny's wife, Tea Leoni, was seemingly aware of her husband's struggle for some time, but has been very supportive. The "Spanglish" star even cancelled an appearance at the Toronto Film Festival, where her movie "Ghost Town" is set to debut, her rep said Monday.
Duchovny's lawyer, Stanton Stein, released a statement last Thursday stating that the X Files: I Want to Believe leading man admitted himself willingly to rehab. Additionally, Duchovny said in the statement that he asks "for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."
Duchovny plays a sex-addicted novelist on Showtime's "Californication."
