BURLINGTON, Vt. - Constitutional scholar, attorney, and historical political analyst Frederick Lane will lecture and answer questions from 7-8 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Yale Club, 54 Vanderbilt Avenue, New York.
Lane is the author of The Court and the Cross: The Religious Right's Crusade to Reshape the Supreme Court.
He will address the 2008 election, its impact on the Supreme Court, and church-state issues.
The night's topics will include: Why religious conservatives continue to campaign against the Warren Court, 40 years later; an overview of morality and religion court cases; and, what President-Elect Barack Obama's initial cabinet appointments signal about his potential judicial appointments.
A reception will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. with a book signing afterward. Admission is free; business-casual dress is required.
The Court and the Cross is Lane's fourth book. His previous titles include The Decency Wars: The Campaign to Cleanse American Culture, The Naked Employee: How Technology Is Compromising Workplace Privacy, and Obscene Profits: The Entrepreneurs of Privacy in the Cyber Age. His fifth book, American Privacy: The 300-Year History of Our Most Contested Right, will be published by Beacon Press in November 2009.
