LONDON - Ann Summers is in final testing stages for her new website's
launch in the next few months. Her current website
is still up and running.
Summers owns and operates a successful chain of sex shops in the U.K. Ian
Wallis, an employee of her company, told Retail Business Show attendees that online
retail is a key part of the stores' success with both genders. He noted that 60
percent of Summers' Internet customers are men, but they represent only one-fifth
of in-store shoppers.
Also part of Summers' refreshed approach to Web operations is a viral email
campaign. Wallis said a demonstration of the campaign at the Retail Business
Show "left many in the audience not sure where to look."
Multi-channel retailers were particularly successful over the Christmas 2007
period, according to comScore.
