ASACP Participates in ‘State of the Net’ Conference

LOS ANGELES - The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection was in Washington, D.C., this week participating in the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee's State of the Net Conference.

ASACP's CEO Joan Irvine and Director of Technology and Compliance Tim Henning attended the conference and technology exhibit.

ASACP was one of only 10 companies granted tables at the conference. Other companies with tables included Comcast, AT&T and Linden Labs.

"It was truly an honor to be a part of such a prestigious event," Irvine said. "We were able to demonstrate how the RTA ‘Restricted To Adults' website label works to a very prominent group of government officials and industry leaders. With such a critical mass of decision-makers, State of the Net provided a unique opportunity for ASACP to discuss what the adult entertainment industry is doing to protect children. People were impressed with the industry's rapid adoption of RTA."

"When we inform people about the RTA statistics, they are amazed," Henning added. "Everyone is impressed that RTA has 4 million page link-ins, 8 million hits with half a million unique visitors in December [2007] alone, plus over 50 million hits a day to pages labeled with RTA. It has been very exciting being able to share this information."

The State of the Net Conference is the largest technology policy conference in Washington, attracting more than 500 attendees. The conference brings technology and the Internet to the forefront of debate on Capitol Hill and blends academics, consumer groups, industry and government.

Now in its fourth year, the annual conference has become the premier forum to discuss technology trends and the challenges facing lawmakers, industry leaders and consumers.

The 11th annual Kickoff Technology Policy Exhibition took place immediately following the conference. It is the longest-running technology policy exhibition in Washington.
