LOS ANGELES - Representatives from the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection said they've been informed that Internet posters are visiting various message boards and posing as officials from the organization.
The Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce contacted ASACP leaders and notified them the imposters are contacting posters on message boards, claiming the content they are posting is illegal and threatening legal action.
"Anyone who comes across suspect child pornography should report it immediately to ASACP at ASACP.org or to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at CyberTipline.com," said Tim Henning, ASACP director of compliance and technology. "Never directly confront anyone who you believe is distributing CP. It's important to know that ASACP would never contact any member of the general public directly regarding suspect CP."
ASACP does not directly search for CP, have employees monitoring messages boards, contact or confront anyone who may be a suspected of distributing CP, or investigate individuals or suspected pedophiles. The organization does operate a CP reporting hotline and forwards reports of suspected CP websites to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
