SAN FRANCISCO—epi24, makers of the unique Womanizer pleasure product, recently commission a Lady Parts IQ study to see what woman know when it comes to their intimate areas.
The survey addressed everything from “pink balls” to ingrown hairs and more.
More than 300 U.S. residents 18 or older participated in the epi24: Lady Parts IQ survey conducted online during the month of July.
The survey found 73 percent of women polled don’t find it necessary to visit their ob/gyn if they find an ingrown hair. But Womanizer expert Michelle Hope said, “If you discover an ingrown hair, rash or discoloration you should go see your gynecologist to ensure it's not something more serious. Often the herpes simplex virus (HSV) can look like an ingrown hair and therefore go unnoticed. It's important to be proactive about vaginal health.”
Other results show 47 percent of women surveyed were unaware it's possible for them to experience “pink balls”—a condition that occurs when women don't climax. In addition to feeling sexually frustrated, pink balls can lead to discomfort or pain, which is often mistaken as a sign for a variety of other issues such as inflammation from an infection or an STI. But more often than not, the pain is caused by a lack of vaginal lubrication during intercourse.
Other finding included 47 percent of the women were not aware an orgasm can help relieve menstrual cramps, and 88 percent believe they should save sex-related questions for their gynecologist or a specialist when they should also talk to their general practitioner.
“It’s important to clear up misperceptions about orgasms and the role they play not just in experiencing sexual pleasure, but how they contribute to overall health and wellness,” Hope said. “epi’s survey suggests it's critical that we teach women, especially young women, to learn more about their lady parts and to not be afraid to ask their doctors questions relating to arousal.
