NEW YORK—Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine—in an effort to try to rehabilitate his image—joined Dignity and Respect, a domestic violence prevention campaign launched in 2018 by adult retail chain Romantic Depot, and starred in an ad where he announced he was leaving the gang life and wanted to make himself a better person by showing women he wants to change his past behavior.
While Tekashi 6ix9ine was not paid for his participation in the ad and the campaign, his efforts to showcase his growth and change have been put on hold following his arrest for federal racketeering charges.
“Romantic Depot does not support Daniel Hernandez aka Tekashi 6ix9ine and his past behavior in anyway whatsoever,” said Romantic Depot NY stores CEO Glen B. said. “A lot of our staff members including myself were very skeptical although the campaign was filmed well before 6ix9ine was being accused by her ex-girlfriend Sara of domestic violence.
“Many of our Romantic Depot employees were against the Tekashi 6ix9ine ad campaign, due to us having a long standing reputation of providing sexual wellness to the NY community, the marketing agency for Romantic Depot pushed for this to be launched Valentines Day week,” Glen continued. “The agency stated. this message by a controversial figure such as 6ix9ine, could help spread the word and start a conversation about preventing domestic violence against women and ultimately that was our goal.”
In response to the situation, Romantic Depot is giving free domestic violence brochures and free Valentine’s Day adult toys to anyone who visits one of their locations and mentions dignity and respect.
