TARZANA, Calif. - Washington-based adult retail corporation Peekay, Inc. announced today that it has acquired Extremes, a couples-friendly store in the heart of the Valley, as part of an expansion plan that will see six new locations open before the end of the year.
"That's kind of our entry into the North Valley out there, we haven't had stores out there before," Peekay founder and COB Phyllis Heppenstall told AVN. "We have two new stores opening in Washington, two new lease locations in Southern California and two relocations. So we're growing pretty aggressively."
Extremes, Heppenstall said, will be converted into a part of the A Touch of Romance chain, which has eight other locations. "I believe that store is slated to close down the first or second week of October," she explained, "and then we'll do a major remodel and it will reopen as A Touch of Romance, and that will happen probably by the middle of October, so we'll be ready for Halloween."
Heppenstall said Extremes was chosen because it fit well with Peekay's retail model, noting, "Our basic company philosophy is that our employees are the heart and soul of our company, and if we treat our employees with respect, and provide a good working environment and good working relationships and good wages, then they'll provide a great environment for our customers. And I think [Extremes owners] Eric and Elaine have had that philosophy and they're just great customer service people; they love their customers, their customers love them, and they come back.
"And we started out business foundationally based on servicing women and couples," she added. "[It] made a great fit."
This acquisition brings the total number of Peekay stores in Southern California to 15, five of which operate under the Condom Revolution banner. In Washington State, Peekay owns 20 stores.
With so much growth happening, Heppenstall said, "We're always looking for great people to join our team. We're looking for real estate people and accounting people and store managers and district managers, and we're a great company, so people that know us or are looking for changes might want to contact us."
