WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif.—A new crowdfunding campaign on the site IndieGoGo will need a serious boost to make its funding goal; otherwise, West Hollywood ("WeHo"), California, may never see the opening of “the first consent-focused robot brothel in the world.” The campaign, run by self-described “robot ethicist” Unicole Unicron, is aiming to create a business to be named “Eve’s Robot Dreams,” where “robots are treated with the respect they deserve, thus not contributing to a potential robot rebellion in the future.”
According to an interview she granted to the UK's Daily Star tabloid, one of the features offered by the sex robot brothel will be the ability for customers to “take a sex robot’s virginity,” albeit for a fee of $10,000.
“The concept of virginity will always be appealing in society where women are highly sexualized while their sexual purity is simultaneously held in high regard,” Unicron told the paper. “It’s no different for a female robot. Men always want to be on the forefront of new technology and this is the most intimate way for them to do this.”
Once a specific robot’s “virginity” is by the boards, the lifelike machine would them go into general use for other customers. But would patrons be excited about having sex with a robot who has been used for a similar purpose by numerous others beforehand?
“The main concern is cleaning and sanitation. We are working with LA County and OSHA to provide the safest environment for everyone,” Unicron wrote on her IndieGoGo page. “We will have staff on-hand to clean and sterilize equipment. Additionally, each guest will be able to purchase their own vaginal or anus insert that is theirs and theirs alone.”
On the crowdfunding page, the robot sex entrepreneur describes the demographics she expects Eve’s Robot Dreams to attract, which includes individuals, “who have wild fantasies; who want to explore without cheating; who are interested in taking their relationship with technology deeper; who are on the autism spectrum, have anxiety interacting with other people, or who are too sensitive to explore human relationships for any reason.”
She also told The Star that she seeks a clientele consisting of both straight and gay men, as well as transgender people—and couples.
"It gives couples a safe place to practice sexual freedom without the added factor of jealousy,” she said. “Some people like to be with two or more dolls at a time and that is a different kind of orgy, but a very pleasurable one still.”
The crowdfunding campaign comes about a month after the city of Houston, Texas, rejected a bid by Yuval Gavriel, owner of “The first SexDoll ‘rent before you buy’ Spa in North America,” to open an outlet there, as AVN.com reported.
Unfortunately, with just 10 days left to go in her crowdfunding campaign, Unicron has raised just $2,634 of her $155,000 goal, meaning that without a surge in response, West Hollywood is likely to end up as barren of sex robot brothels as Texas.
