TALAVERA DE LA REINA, Spain—When the owner of a sex shop in Spain decided to put the “adult novelty” into a “novelty nativity set” in his shop window, it created a little uproar in his community.
Hector Valdivieso, who owns the store Non Sit Peccatum, commissioned an artist to paint the figures of Joseph, Mary and Jesus on dildos that he then displayed in the front window of his shop, according to news outlet The Local. While it’s not unusual for stores in Spain to display nativity scenes in their windows, Valdivieso drew the ire of locals who said they were offended by the display.
In a Facebook post, Valdivieso said, “A man with his wife ordered me to remove the offending scene and said that if I didn’t he would remove it himself.” He also noted several people insulted him personally, and he also called police because of the complaints he received, which included vandals painting the word “peccaries” (“sinners”) on the shop’s sign and a group of people standing outside the store to harass customers.
Valdivieso removed the display and replaced it with a poster asking if he should leave it out or bring it back. Of the 988 people who responded to his informal survey, The Local reported, 78.5 percent said it should be displayed.
“People asked me not to give in to blackmail,” he told reporters. “So it’s going back in the window.”
There’s no word on whether or not Valdivieso stocks and sells the infamous Baby Jesus butt plug or not.
