Fun Factory Celebrates 25 Years

LOS ANGELES — Fun Factory is celebrating 25 years in the sex toy industry as a leading innovator.

Billed as "the original eco-conscious sex toy brand and inventors of the first ever rechargeable sex toy," Fun Factory says they are "pioneers in playfulness."

The company sets out to "responsibly and ethically" manufacture German-made toys that inspire sexual exploration. They will mark its 25th birthday with a series of celebrations over the coming year.

Fun Factory is partnering with sex educators and entertainers Zoë Ligon, aka Thongria, and Jet Setting Jasmine, to shine a spotlight on how far the toy industry has come over the past 25 years and celebrate the rising trend in sustainability within the sex toy industry.

Back in 1996 when Fun Factory first launched, the toy world was different with some products being manufactured that were toxic and unsafe, the company said. Using nothing but play dough and a lot of imagination, co-founders Dirk Bauer and Michael Pahl shaped and molded "the very first dildo that went on to be made out of medical grade silicone," the Paddy Penguin, and they’ve been innovating ever since.

Fun Factory claims it is credited with inventing the first rechargeable sex toy; the first to use medical grade silicone on a vibrator; first to make a waterproof vibrator; and first to win a prestigious Red Dot Design Award for the Delight vibrator in 2008.

The company produces more than 3000 products every day with one of the lowest CO2 emissions in the industry. All their products are sustainably designed, produced and packaged in their factory in Germany and come in earth-friendly, recyclable packaging, sourced locally. Every product is crafted by hand and undergoes rigorous German quality control, the company said.

Kristen Tribby, Fun Factory’s head of global marketing, says: “At Fun Factory we love to challenge people, whether that’s challenging our customers to be creative in the bedroom or challenging the industry to make more ethical products. We’ve come a long way from the unregulated days of phthalates and PBA and customers are now making informed purchase decisions. As an industry we are responsible in making sure we offer sustainable and ethical sex toys.”

Jet Setting Jasmine, clinical therapist, adult entertainer and educator, remarks: “I love to prioritize sustainability in every way, but especially with my pleasure. That is why I’m excited to partner with Fun Factory! They not only make really fun products, they are consciously made and they cater for every body & gender. Purchasing a sex toy can be a daunting experience. There are so many toy brands out there and many of them have questionable manufacturing processes or materials. What I love about Fun Factory is they offer safe low-carbon orgasms! It feels great knowing that I can help support our planet’s bright future to meet their pleasure potential.”

Still a family business, 28-year-old Jordis Meise, the daughter of co-founder Dirk Bauer, manages marketing and the brand. She fondly refers to Fun Factory as a family member of sorts.

“I have watched the industry grow and evolve with new brands popping-up all the time," Meise says. "Fun Factory started this ball rolling, innovating the industry with well-made and well-engineered products. We’re delighted to see the ball has picked up steam and in 2021 sex toys are in the mainstream and the industry is being taken seriously as a viable business opportunity. Fun Factory has achieved so much over the past 25 years and just like a BMW, we are built to last and have innovation at our core. The next 25 years are going to be a real ride. It feels great to know we are improving people’s lives all while helping them have fun.”

Fun Factory's array of products includes vibrators, pulsators, toys for single use, couples use, throuples use, and even menstrual cups.
