BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Pleasure products manufacturer Dame Products was among seven female-founded brands that took out a full-page ad in The New York Times opposing recent abortion laws in various states.
Dame Products co-founders Alexandra Fine and Janet Lieberman signed the ad, alongside representatives from Sustain Natural, Thinx, LOOM, Cora, Clary Collection and Fur.
The ad, which ran Tuesday, May 21, in the famed newspaper, reads: “Abortion is: a human right, a constitutional right, a personal choice, health care, lifesaving, gene equality, owning your own body, not a time, not up for debate.” A letter below the large text urges other businesses to work to affirm a woman’s right to choose.
“For too long, corporate America has been largely silent on speaking up for sexual and reproductive health and rights,” the letter reads in part. “That must change. Today, we loudly and boldly declare that we will not be silent in defense of fundamental human rights and we challenge our peers in the business community to do the same. Now is the time to speak up. Together, we can defeat these unconstitutional attacks on our rights.”
Dame Products’ official Twitter account has shared stories, as well as posted a tweet that reads, “We’ve joined forces with @shethinx, @sustain, @thisisloom, @fur_you, @clarycollection, and @corawomen in collective action against the recent policies putting the lives of people who have a uterus at risk now more than ever. Thanks, @nytimes. #mybodymybusiness #stopthebans.”
