Businesses Getting Some Big Bang For Their Billboard Bucks

HATTIESBURG, Miss.—Business owners always want to get the most bang for their buck when it comes to advertising, but two places in Southern Mississippi got more than they bargained for with their billboards, and they plan to take as much advantage of that as they can.

Adult boutique Pepper’s Parties, Too has had a billboard on Interstate 59 in the southern Mississippi town of Hattiesburg for some time now. The ad, which gives directions to the store “For All Your Romantic Devices,” has been in place long enough for other advertisers to come and go on a billboard just below it. But, maybe, thanks to kismet, the perfect companion ad has been found.

Plaid Rhino, a pub-style restaurant, is attempting to advertise its weekly steak night with a billboard asking, “got wood?”

It was an unexpected surprise to both of the businesses’ owners, but they want to work together to get as much mileage as they can out of the situation.

“We just met with the manager of the restaurant and they are willing to work with us to blow this out of the water!” said Kathi Pepper, who co-owns Pepper’s Parties, Too with her husband James. “Keep in mind that we're in southern Mississippi, so something like this doesn't happen very often for us. We are grateful for the opportunity!”

Fans of both businesses are already publishing pictures of the billboards on various social media outlets, and the owners are hoping to broaden their customer bases with crossover marketing.

All in all, Pepper admits, it’s a nice way to benefit from a happy accident.
