LOS ANGELES—As exhibitors and buyers arrived in Southern California to attend the semi-annual ANME show, many took the time to attend preview events meant to celebrate the achievements of some of the industry’s most impressive manufacturers.
High temps and humidity didn’t quell the enthusiasm of those who trekked Sunday morning to Universal Studios Hollywood for a catered brunch and a fun-filled day in the theme park, courtesy of CalExotics.
The event not only marked the company’s 25th anniversary, but also served as a thank you to CalExotics’ early supporters.
Founder and CEO Susan Colvin explained the crowd was filled with retailers, distributors, bankers and more who have been with CalExotics from the start.
“That has always meant a lot,” she told the crowd. “There were some who didn’t think we would make it past the first 24 hours.”

Guests for the brunch gathered in a sound stage on a lower level of the theme park, and were able to indulge in everything from shrimp cocktail to fresh carved turkey or steak to caprese salad to eggs and bacon or mango jalapeño sausage.
There were photo booth stations set up in the back of the room, while tables were decorated with props from behind-the-scenes of moving making, including film reels, megaphones and gold statues.
Before guests were sent off to explore the park and all its rides, shows and tours, Colvin had everyone raise a glass of champagne for a toast not only to CalExotics, but one another.

Sunday evening, some of the industry’s leading retailers and buyers were treated to an evening under the stars on the patio at Castaway Burbank. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of XR Brands, the company invited guests to enjoy appetizers—crab legs, ceviche, beef crostini and a charcuterie and cheese table—as well drinks and stunning views of the greater Los Angeles area.
While a DJ spun tunes for entertainment, a roaming close-up magician helped to entertain those gathered with intriguing sleight-of-hand tricks.
XR Brands—known for its motto “Play Hard”—delivered a photo booth op at the entrance, complete with props. At the end of the night, guests were sent home with a gift bag with a bottle of wine with a Tom of Finland label and other items.
The weekend kicked off with a racing event hosted by System JO. Special guests with a need for speed spent the day Saturday at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, a 2-mile track and a host of NASCAR racing since 1997. In addition to catered meals all day, guests of the manufacturer were able to live out their racer dreams on the track in a variety of cars.
