BURBANK, Calif. - Dayton, Ohio-based radio station Z-93 FM has launched a Breast Cancer Awareness Month promotion with adult-novelty manufacturer Tyler Hope, which had announced plans for campaigns with radio stations to raise funds and awareness throughout the month.
Z-93 held raffles for 10 donated Tyler Hope bears and massage-oil candles from Oct. 22-31. Through November, Tyler Hope will donate 5 percent of all online bear sales from the Dayton marketplace to the Ohio chapters of leading cancer charities.
Additional Tyler Hope bears and massage-oil candles were made available to Z-93's lingerie and adult-novelty shop advertisers at a wholesale price of $35 for each bear and candle. The offer was made to encourage participation in an expanded dollar-matching charity program. For each bear and candle sold to the shops, Tyler Hope donated 5 percent of proceeds to cancer charities in Z-93's name and donated an additional 15 bears for Z-93 to use in future charity promotions.
"It's said that if everyone in the country donated only 5 percent of their income to charity, we'd abolish poverty, famine and disease in a few short years," said Z-93 personality Scott Mallory. "The fact that Tyler Hope Pets is actually doing that is commendable, and it's a pleasure for Z-93 to be working with such a philanthropic company."
Tyler Hope CEO Kirk Salvador said that when he assumed the position at the beginning of 2007, his aim was to combine his business with his passion for charity work.
"One of the reasons I'm doing this is personal experience with breast cancer in my family," he said. "I've seen dramatic efforts of how devastating breast cancer can be to a family, but also how much hope and comfort research and awareness can bring."
In July, Tyler Hope donated 200 bears for a domestic-abuse charity function at the Playboy Mansion. Each month, Tyler Hope's Pets chooses and highlights an organization for its work toward improving women's health and well-being.
In addition to Z-93's campaign with Tyler Hope, on-air personalities Mallory and Campy joined listeners on Oct. 18 to pin ribbons on bras and hang them on the Riverside-Monument Bridge. The station had collected bras for the event and assembled them at a party.
