LONDON - Celebrities have decided to doff their skivvies and auction them off to benefit the New North London Synagogue.
There are plenty of people involved in the eBay auction who would be considered no-names by American standards, but big-name stars involved in the event include Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, actresses Emma Thompson and Helen Mirren, and actors Daniel Day Lewis, Ricky Gervais, and Sacha Baron Cohen.
So how much are people willing to cough up for the boxers, briefs, and panties of their favorite famous people? Bids for Fergie's gold panties were at 165 pounds as of Thursday, while English political cartoonist Steve Bell's briefs decorated with images of former British Prime Minister John Major were commanding 330 pounds.
All proceeds from the online auction will help the synagogue, an institution that offers a wide range of educational, cultural, social action, and other communal activities for both its membership and the wider Jewish and non-Jewish community.
The auction continues through March 31 on the U.K. version of eBay.
