ABERDEEN, Scotland—Forgetting where you put your keys is one thing. Forgetting that you put your sex toy in your vagina and didn’t retrieve it can be life threatening.
Such was the case with a 38-year-old Scottish woman, who went to see doctors because she was concerned she was losing weight and discovered that a sex toy she had inserted 10 years ago was still there.
The woman, whom doctors described as having “normal intelligence” in their article published in the June edition of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, reported that she remembered using the item, but not pulling it out.
The woman also complained of having trouble urinating and sepsis-like symptoms, the case study said. Surgeons at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Aberdeen, Scotland, removed an 11 cm-long sex toy from the woman. The toy had caused a bladder blockage that was forcing urine to back up into her kidneys, and had also created a vesicovaginal fistula, which is a tract that causes urine to flow into the vagina.
Doctors have reportedly been able to repair the damage.
