PENNSAUKEN, N.J.—In an ongoing mission at Williams Trading Co. to give back, the company has launched its first ever fund-raising campaign to bring awareness of the importance of taking one’s own health seriously.
"We are focused on sexual health and awareness as a company and the industry as a whole, but it is also very important for us to not forget that our heart health is most important," stated Kelly Szwed, marketing and promotions coordinator for Williams Trading Co.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is still the No. 1 killer of women, taking the life of one in three women each year. This means mothers, sisters and friends are dying at the rate of one per minute because they don't know heart disease kills.
Because women have been largely ignored as a specific group, awareness of their risk of developing this often preventable disease has suffered. Only 55 percent of women realize heart disease is their No. 1 killer; less than half know what are considered healthy levels for cardiovascular risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol. The Go Red for Women movement works to make sure women know they should take action to protect their heart health.
Williams Trading Co. teamed up with California Exotic Novelties on this project as an outgrowth of a long-running and highly regarded relationship.
“CalExotics is a woman-owned company, so it seemed very befitting that they would team up with us to educate and empower women," commented Szwed.
"This is a great idea ... something we have believed in for a long, long time," agreed Jackie White, vice president of sales at CalExotics.
Five percent of the proceeds from WTC Go Red Catalog were donated to the Go Red campaign.
"Our plan is to participate every year just as we have each holiday season with our other donation campaigns," said Bob Pyne Jr., vice president of Williams Trading Co.
