Wiener King Oscar Mayer Dead

MADISON, Wis. — Oscar G. Mayer, who was the third-generation leader of the meat processing company that bears his name, died of old age Monday, July 6.

According to the Associated Press, Mayer’s widow, Geraldine Fitzpatrick Mayer, said he died at Hospice Care in Fitchburg, Wis.

Oscar Mayer Foods, known for hot dogs and bologna, is located in Madison, Wis., and is now a business unit of Kraft. Mayer was preceded as head of the company by his grandfather, Oscar F. Mayer, who died in 1955, and his father, Oscar G. Mayer Sr., who died in 1965, the AP reported.

Mayer served as chairman of the board of the company until 1977, when he retired at 62 years old.

Mayer was married twice: his wife Rosalie died in 1998, and he married Geraldine in 1999.
