CHICAGO—The newest card game from one of the creators of Cards Against Humanity has officially launched on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.com.
Weapons of Mass Seduction—referred to as “Would you rather?” with the added twist of sexual favors—was created by couple Kaitlin Johnson and Daniel Dranove, the co-founder of Cards Against Humanity.
“I'm excited about Weapons of Mass Seduction because sex games were a new experience for me and Kaitlin, and for all of our friends,” Drano said. “There’s a lot of kink we knew nothing about and it’s been a lot of fun to talk about and try. Not everything in the game is sensational, it’s about guessing whether you prefer being whipped with a riding crop or getting a back massage. And it’s low stakes, you are never told by the game to do what’s on the cards, you can always do them later when you want to.”
The favors in Weapons of Mass Seduction range from the everyday—“opponent makes you pancakes” and “opponent writes you a poem”—to kinkier ones such as “whip opponent with riding crop” and “ask another couple if you can watch them have sex.” The game is full of voyeurism, S&M, role-play, and group sex, as well as the less risqué. Couples of any sex and orientation can play, and each deck comes with 50 blank cards so players can write their own favors and customize their experience. Founders Dranove and Johnson recommend beginning with a “dry run” and creating a safe word before getting things started.
“The game was originally something Daniel and I made for each other for Valentine's Day in Hawaii years ago,” Johnson said. “Researching sex and developing a public version has been challenging but I’ve realized how important it is to openly discuss sex. If you don't get a sternly written email from Tinder about inappropriate behavior, you’re doing it wrong.”
Much like other card games, there are expansion packs available that can personalize Weapons of Mass Seduction for couples of all types. Johnson and Dranove reached out to members of the adult industry to help with different versions of the game.
“Our friends at Randy Blue helped write our Totally Gay pack,” Johnson told AVN. “They had a lot of fun suggestions, mostly vanilla ones like ‘Go to a restaurant and do a fake marriage proposal’ and ‘At night, act like a hand maiden to your opponent and before bed, disrobe them and put on their pajamas for them.’”
Johnson noted Fleshlight CamStar Natalie Star helped developers gives Weapons of Mass Seduction an added dimension with online participation.
“Star has given us suggestions that are in the direction of online use like ‘Masturbate on cam in front of a chatroom full of people’ and "Have phone sex while receiving oral sex.’” Johnson said. “We're also working with her to explore ways to play WMS over video and over the phone.”
When Weapons of Mass Seduction meets its goal—the campaign runs until 10 p.m. PST Friday, June 17—it will be mass produced by AdMagic, the indie game board and card company that printed Cards Against Humanity.
