OTTAWA, Canada - We-Vibe inventor Bruce Murison wasn't sure what to expect from the celebrities to whom he'd have the opportunity to present his product during the build-up to the Academy Awards in Lost Angeles last month. He admitted he was excited, but a little nervous.
As things turned out, Murison needn't have worried. His unconventional "erotic enhancement" product attracted fans of its own in the star-studded "gifting room" at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.
"It was surreal being surrounded by so many stars," Murison's wife and co-owner of Standard Innovation Corporation, Melody, said. "We handed out more than 200 We-Vibes to movie stars, TV stars, Olympic athletes, publicists and Oscar nominees. Their reaction was one of total amazement that such a device finally exists."
Bruce Murison told AVN Novelty Business, "85 percent of the stars responded with enthusiasm, and the rest just kept on walking as soon as they realized what the We-Vibe booth had in store for them. The stars were not at all shy about having their picture taken with the We-Vibe.
"Meeting the celebrities was a great experience," he added. "The stars were genuine and many spent a long time with us while we discussed the We-Vibe and the journey Melody and I have been on since inventing the We-vibe in 2001. Melody and I were fortunate to be accompanied by our friends and business partners from Vibratex, Shay Martin and Stephanie Kienzle, and we were all exhausted but happy by the end of the show.
"I was left with a feeling that the stars are all just people like the rest of us and enjoy sex and stimulating conversation."
The Murisons believe We-Vibe is helping to foster intimacy and sexually healthy lifestyles and change societal views towards adult toys. The product has won a number of design awards since its introduction, and Bruce Murison said 80,000 units sold during the first 10 months the product was on the market.
"We accomplished our mission to demonstrate to the mainstream - celebrities and media alike - that the We-Vibe is not to be feared," he told ANB. "It is a non-threatening, non-phallic, elegant little device that is ideal for enabling intimacy between couples while empowering women to take control of their own pleasure. The celebrities were excited and astonished when they saw the product and how it works."
Among the hundreds of stars who took home the We-Vibe were "90210" star AnnaLynne McCord, MTV personality and My Space diva Tila Tequila, Playboy Bunny and "most downloaded woman on the Net" Cindy Margolis, "American Idol" runner-up Justin Guarini, actor Mario Lopez, "True Beauty" participant Billy Jeffrey, and Eva Marcille of "The Young & Restless."
"The We-Vibe generated lots of laughter, but there was a overall sense of amazement and genuine enthusiastic interest when it came down to what the product actually does and how it can provide women the stimulation they desire while allowing the intimacy of making love," Bruce Murison told ANB. "We are getting feedback from women and couples of all ages that they have purchased the We-Vibe as their first sex toy. The decision to purchase a sex toy is often arrived at by the couple, but women seem to be the predominant broadcaster of the We-Vibe experience to their friends. The best salesperson seems to be a happy woman who is delighted to have discovered the We-Vibe. Stores report that men are arriving with a note from their wife [that mentions the product by name]."
The product also will also be featured in the gifting room at this year's Genie Awards, scheduled for April 4.
