Utah Police Raid Spencer’s Gifts

LAYTON, Utah - A Spencer's Gifts store was raided Tuesday morning for failing to check the ages of customers buying adult novelties, Utah police said.

Just as the Spencer's store in Layton was opening Tuesday, police seized 15 boxes, including adult-oriented games, food items and novelties.

Police said the store violated a Utah statute by not verifying shoppers' ages for sales involving adult novelties.

Police said it is not illegal for Spencer's to sell items like genital-shaped candies and other sexually oriented merchandise in plain view, but the problem was with who could have been buying those items.

No one was arrested. The case has been referred to the county attorney's office to be screened for possible charges or civil action.
