Topco Sales is Feeling a Little Blue

CHATSTWORTH, Calif.—Adult novelty manufacturer Topco Sales is Going Blue in support of the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation (SSF). As a part of the Bold Blue Day Sjögren's (pronounced “show-grins”) initiative, employees came to work dressed in blue and made monetary donations to the foundation.

"I became aware of Sjögren's because someone I love very much was recently diagnosed with the disease," said Michael Siegel, Topco Sales' chief operating officer. "It is one of several very painful, annoying and life-changing autoimmune diseases that have no cure."

Sjögren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease in which a person's white blood cells attack his or her moisture-producing glands. Today, as many as 4 million Americans are living with this disease, though there are believed to be nearly 3 million Americans yet to be diagnosed. Nine out of 10 cases of Sjögren's are found in women.

"Lack of awareness is just one of the difficulties faced by Sjögren's patients," continued Siegel. "Thankfully, it's one problem we can all do something about. Together with SSF, the employees of Topco and I, are spreading the message that this disease exists and we're helping to raise critical funding for research."

April is Sjögren's awareness month. This year, the SSF goal is to recruit 50 businesses to take part in their newly launched "Bold Blue Day" initiative. The initiative helps increase awareness for Sjögren's while also raising crucial funds for Sjögren's research.
