Topco Freshens Up

CHATSWORTH, Calif. – After 35 years of industry success, a company like Topco Sales likely would be content to rest on its laurels. Not so, according to Chief Executive Officer Scott Tucker. With the re-branding of two of its most successful product lines, Penthouse and Hustler, a January launch of a top-secret new line and some personnel changes, Topco will be taking “an integrated marketing approach that encompasses a lot of different techniques that involve fun, unexpected avenues to showcase our various brands.”

The re-branding of the already successful Penthouse and Hustler novelty lines was just one step in this direction. “Because our licensed lines are of key importance here at Topco, it was crucial to us that Penthouse and Hustler be on the forefront of this movement,” says Topco’s director of licensing and product specialist, Polita Barnes. “Now that we’ve introduced the new brands, we’re enthusiastically working with our licensors to support, promote, and, of course, grow these lines. The Penthouse and Hustler brands that we created make an incredible retail impact, so we don’t plan on stopping until their presence is known in adult retail outlets everywhere.”

Barnes says the re-branding simply was a way of keeping things fresh—and to apply existing marketing techniques used in non-adult to adult-related products. “For many years, mainstream companies have been successful in speaking to different consumers through the language of branding, and we saw no reason why we could not use the same types of methods to tell people the story of our products,” Barnes says. “We strongly felt that our re-branding initiatives would help us bring in new customers and enter into new markets.”
